Contemplative Witnessing

Fortress Press, 2025

This book presents contemplative witnessing as a communal spiritual practice that centers the experiences of people of color in spiritual conversations. BIPOC communities have a different kind of soul work we need to engage to experience rest, healing, and restoration that is different than the one-size-fits-all spirituality and spiritual direction presented through western frameworks. This book is organized into three questions I hold as a contemplative witness to others: What experience needs to be witnessed today? Who is your sacred self? and What does our communal healing and restoration look like?  These questions help me to facilitate a BIPOC-centered spirituality with communities of color. Within these three questions I look at six sacred movements I’ve observed as a witness and spiritual director with people of color. These sacred movements are cultivating spaciousness, accessing our sources, cyclical healing, decolonizing spiritual care, generational healing, and restoring harmony.
